1. Asesssment of free full-text search websites
Many of us working for organizations with a significant research
budget have come to depend on Nexis and Dow Jones Interactive
for our full-text news searches. Not all researchers have this
luxury and must depend on the free web. The new issue of ONLINE
magazine has a critique of two of the leading free sites: FindArticles
and MagPortal. The article can be found at:
www.infotoday.com/online/jul02/OnTheNet.htm
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Financial Times list of U.S. corporate investigations
The website of the Financial Times <ft.com> has put together a handy
list of the major corporate investigations now taking place. It can be found
on the web at:
The list was part of a package of stories entitled "Corporate America in
Crisis," which was published on July 2 and can be found on the web at:

3. Vickers launches website with institutional stock ownership data
Vickers Stock Research has launched a subscription website <www.vickers-stock.com>
that provides complete institutional stock ownership data. The information
is much more convenient than the Vickers data on Lexis-Nexis (for example,
it has info on voting authority) and is substantially less expensive than services
such as Thomson. Your moderator has just opened an account for unlimited usage
(including dowloading) at a cost of $100 a month.

4. Corporate Research E-Letter
Dirt Diggers may be interested to know that your moderator, Phil Mattera, and
his colleague Mafruza Khan at the Corporate Research Project produce a free
monthly online publication called the Corporate Research E-Letter. The most
recent issue discusses the phenomenon of U.S. corporations reincorporating
in Bermuda to avoid federal taxes. Back issues can be found online at:
http://www.corp-research.org/archives.htm
If you would like to be put on the list to receive future issues via e-mail, send
